Re-reading the thread I think this is what is happening:

 

Issue one:

 

The subreport I believe is created off of a stored proc, which is essentially one table. You are now trying to make the report work with two tables. If you use that troubleshooting wiki and follow the steps there, you wills see similar issues in the designer. An no, this did not work using VBA (e.g.; the Crystal Reports Report Designer Component SDK). There is no way to tell CR to go from one table to two tables.

 

Issue two:

The report was based on a non parametrized stored proc. It looks to me that now you are trying to point it at a stored proc that has parameters. Again, this will not work, not even in the CR designer. ANd if it don't work in the designer, it sure ain't going to work at runtime.
